The Comstock is a nickname for the region of Western Nevada in the vicinity of Virginia City. It includes Silver City, Gold Hill, Virginia City, and the surrounding Virginia Range of mountains.
The region gets its name because it was the site of the Comstock Lode, which from 1860 to 1880 was one of the richest deposits of gold and silver in the nation. The Comstock Lode in turn gets its name from Henry Comstock, one of the early miners in the area.
Access to the Comstock is by Hwy 341, which runs along the Virginia Range from Mound House in the south to Reno in the north.
