Empire City was a town in the Eagle Valley, founded in 1860, around the same time as Carson City. The site was originally the home of Nicholas "Dutch Nick" Ambrose, and was laid out as a town in March 1860. Empire was located on the banks of the Carson River and was the home to several ore reduction mills that served the Comstock. The main line of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad ran right through town. The town disappeared in the early 1900s, and Carson City expanded onto the land where it used to sit.
